Re-wind to 2015 and we were there ourselves. We’d created a business that had served us well, but it got to the point where there was something missing.

Looking back we’d realised our original vision of creating a boutique digital studio by the sea. After doing a fair bit of soul searching we came up with the idea of The Happy Startup School and something fundamentally shifted.

Suddenly all our creative energy and excitement got channelled into that and our passion for the agency slowly died. We had something new to live for.

We closed down the agency while it was thriving to realise our dream.

Since that day more than 100,000 people now follow our blog, 5,000 people have taken our courses and we’ve hosted dozens of life-changing events all around the world – from the wild beaches of Goa to the mountains of Oregon.

We’ve created a diverse set of revenue streams that has allowed us to break away from our old agency model where we just sold our time.

Almost 5 years ago to the day, in November 2014, we launched our first online course. It’s something we’d considered ever since we started The Happy Startup School two years before.

After running a service business for 10 years we were keen to move away from just selling our time.

However for whatever reason we’d still not done anything about it.

After all we had the knowledge and the skills – we’d already written a book on entrepreneurship and delivered lots of workshops based on our approach. 

Perhaps we’d built it up into something that required a huge amount of time to put together. Most likely we wanted it to be perfect in every way before we launched.

A perfect example of perfection being the enemy of done.

Looking back I believe we had serious doubts about whether it could work. We’d built our early reputation on transformational in-person events, surely we couldn’t get even close to the same impact online?

Killing our assumptions

However a conversation with our friend got us thinking that we had everything we need. 

We just needed to stop making excuses and get on with it.

A month later we launched our first online course and in a matter of weeks we managed to recruit 100 students and generated £20k in revenue. Not to be sniffed at.

We’d created our own minimum loveable product.

So our friend was right. We’d successfully debunked our belief that you can’t make money (or impact) online. 

Not through thinking differently, but through action.

Crucially this would never have happened if it wasn’t for the support of those around us – an incredible group of likeminded entrepreneurs that gave us the confidence to make our dream happen and do the hard thing.

It was like a crowd of hearts propelling us forward.

Ever since we’ve amassed an even more rich and diverse group of mentors, teachers and peers that have inspired us, and continue to support each other to get through the tough times, and celebrate the good ones.

Together.

About the program

A PART-TIME online PROGRAM FOR BUSY FOUNDERS

Over the course of 20 weeks from 31st January we’ll take you on a learning journey like no other with new friends from around the globe. You’ll get inspired by each others stories, learn your unique superpowers and build the creative muscle that will propel you into new possibilities for your business.

We’ve been building digital products for close to 20 years and know what it takes to bring ideas to life and, crucially, make them famous.

We’ve amassed a wealth of knowledge on tools and techniques that will help you create your first online product and generate revenues fast.

We know how busy you are so have designed it so that it fits around your other commitments. There’ll be a small amount of face time required and you can do the work at your own pace. All the meetings will be on Zoom, so you can access them from anywhere, from a mobile or laptop.

Laurence McCahill and Carlos Saba started their first company, a digital product studio, in 2004 and grew that into a respected agency with a team of designers and developers.
